Bill to overhaul state schools goes to the governor
The Texas Senate on Friday gave final approval to improving security and oversight of the state’s large institutions for the mentally disabled, which have been hit with allegations of widespread abuse and neglect. If the bill is signed into law, the state will install video surveillance cameras in common areas and give new powers to the state office of inspector general to help local prosecutors pursue cases of abuse, neglect or exploitation.

ADT to provide access control and video for major airport in India
Tyco systems integration firm ADT Security has landed the contract for security services at Terminal 3 of the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi. The company will be providing access control and video surveillance systems for the 500,000-square-meters terminal, which is expected to open in the spring of 2010. The airport is said to see 60 million passengers per year.

Despite impending shutdown, Gitmo to receive new security systems
Even though President Obama has ordered the terrorist prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to be closed in less than a year, the U.S. naval station's contracting office is planning the installation of an improved access control system - including additional surveillance cameras -- at Camp Six, a maximum security detention facility at Guantanamo, and two other facilities which appear to be called "Camp Six Lite" and "Ultra Lite."

TSA envisions exit control systems at hundreds of U.S. airports
In an effort to prevent unscreened people from gaining access to a secure area in an airport by entering through an exit doorway, TSA is planning a pilot program in which it will test "Exit Lane Breach Control" technologies installed on two lanes each at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

New York City Wireless Network Goes Live Citywide
New York City first responders have high-speed wireless connectivity anywhere across the city's more than 300 square miles, thanks to the newly deployed New York City Wireless Network (NYCWiN). The price tag was $500 million, paid to vendor Northrop Grumman to build the network, then operate and maintain it over the next five years.
