Tennessee Authorizes Statewide Freeway Speed Camera Program
The Tennessee General Assembly on Tuesday gave final approval to legislation authorizing the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) and Tennessee Highway Patrol to ticket motorists on interstate freeway work zones using automated cameras. Although many members in the House and Senate expressed strong opposition to the concept of photo enforcement, the authorization measure passed by an overwhelmingly 80 to 10 margin in the House and 28 to 0 in the Senate. The support was due in no small part to the bill's wording, which granted authority to deploy cameras in the guise of restricting them.

Fort Pierce (FL) police unveil anti-crime camera surveillance system
When Nael Shreiteh, owner of Brothers Meat and Groceries at the corner of Avenue E and 23rd Street, got robbed last year, he said he installed a video surveillance system inside his store.
But on Thursday, Shreiteh said he had no idea police at the Willie B. Ellis substation on Avenue D also were watching his store on two flat-screen TVs. A video camera mounted atop a utility pole outside Shreiteh’s business can zoom in at a 280-degree angle on activity in front and around his business.
